Hello Rochester: Lunt Chiropractic

Kelsey Lunt is currently in her 8th year of practice, and 4th year of owning Lunt Chiropractic. Owning a business was never a role Kelsey saw herself in, but it has been the most gratifying and rewarding experience of her life thus far. Lunt Chiropractic is a small office specializing in wellness, muscle work, nutrition and chiropractic for all ages.

1. What is the main difference between a chiropractor and a family medicine provider?

The short, sweet answer to that would be that Chiropractors do not prescribe medicine. However, according to New York state law, it is within our scope of practice to function as a patient’s Primary Care Provider as well. Chiropractors have more hours of study in anatomy and physiology than a family medicine provider, thus qualifying us as a specialist in musculoskeletal health.

2. What makes your chiropractic care and office unique?

At Lunt Chiropractic, we pride ourselves on our tailored treatment approach for each patient. We are not a “one size fits all” office, and take more time than most other Chiropractors to provide more lasting relief. The area we excel in the most is muscle work, as many Chiropractors will only adjust and not take the time to perform extra services, which I feel strongly creates a more lasting treatment approach. In addition, taking time to educate patients about their diagnoses goes a long way, because the more people understand about their body mechanics the better they become at controlling pain.

3. In addition to chiropractic care, what other health suggestions do you share with your clients?

We concentrate greatly on nutrition at our office, as well as provide exercises, stretches and ergonomic advice so patients can maximize the effect of their visit. Dr. Kelsey partners with Metagenics, a highly rated nutraceutical company, to provide high quality supplements for patients in need. I also like discussing stress management with patients, as stress very often manifests as musculoskeletal injury/disorder.

4. How did you find success as a young business owner in the medical field?

I am very passionate about making people feel better, as I have also experienced my share of back pain. The fact that I can relate to my patients and provide a safe environment where they feel heard has contributed to my word of mouth referrals, which is the majority of our new patient base. I also use humor to break the ice with colleagues and patients which creates more personal relationships and a more welcoming environment. I am still learning about how to run a successful business daily, and plan to continue using the wisdom of my peers, the knowledge I gain, and trial and error to be as successful as I can in business and life.

5. What are your long term goals for Lunt Chiropractic?

I would love to open a satellite office somewhere else in Rochester and hire more staff; I am currently looking at bringing in another Chiropractor and hope to add one more massage therapist imminently. I would also like to run a multidisciplinary practice to include other holistic health providers such as an acupuncturist, naturopath, or licensed nutritionist in the future.
